There is no escaping the fact that plastics have both advantages and disadvantages. Most people are aware of the impact of plastic litter on the environment. Therefore, it is extremely important, both as a consumer and producer, to extend the life cycle by reusing the plastic.
On the other hand, there is also no escaping the fact that the use of plastics has actually contributed to reducing energy demand and greenhouse gas emissions.
This is because most crude oil is used for transportation and heating. Today, 45% of all oil is used for transportation and 42% for heating.
More plastics are being used in vehicles and shipping products, as well as insulating our buildings and other products such as refrigerators. This is where the big savings in oil and greenhouse gases can be made. Four percent of all oil is used to make the world’s plastics. However, the use of plastics saves large amounts of oil.
